Wow this year went by really fast! Time to look back on 2021 and tell you a bit about what's in store for the Sovereign Project 2022! Let's get started! RECAP 2021 This year was full of ups ans downs. I finished 2 big commissions which ended up costing me several months extra. My rabbit died in summer, and I left the drawing board for the first time in many years for 2 whole months; I got engaged, started working on our new appartment we're going to move into sometime next year, started a new...

(Please ignore the typo in the picture... I fixed it for the published page.) Here's a bit about the whole "Almost finished a comic page but then decided to make another one inbetween" matter and why I decided to go with it in the first place. I was almost done with the line art for page 10 (now page 11) when I realized that the pacing of the comic was way too fast. We have the prologue that is rather quick and fast, which is fine because it's just the introduction. Then we have the relatively...

After taking a break from the Sovereign comic (worked on the Halloween story instead) I'm finally back and finished the lineart of the next page yesterday. The reason for the break is partially becaus we've had so much to do and so many visitors over - almost every day we were going somewhere or had someone visit us - that I needed the few days left without appointments to myself to just relax and do whatever I feel like. The comic then seemed like work, even though I really like drawing it. It...

Firts off: Have a sketch of Irma being all calm and Zen. Tada. Now onto the serious stuff. I completely miscalculated how long Page number 6 would take me. It's the first of the Irma feature. Several factors contributed to the delay: learning a new software, writing exams, applying for a new job, starting a new job at a company, lots of family birthdays. All of these factors caused me to have almost no time left to do anything else apart from chores and taking a breather. So when I started the...

One of the hardest things to do is "Killing your darlings". It's a common practice among writers and refers to the cutting out of ideas that you liked very much but just don't have any purpose or influence on the main plot. I've had to kill some darlings in my time and, naturally I have to do it for the Sovereigns comics occasionally, too. For example: the first issue was supposed to start with a nightmare scene of Hay Lin that I was very fond of. Now this is a temporary kill since I might...

Today I'd like to show you how I go about the layout of each comic page, I like to call it "Paneling". First of cause I have the idea of what is supposed to happen in the page. I write those ideas down, formulate some texts if necessary and theoretically think through how many panels I need and fit on the page in order to convey all of that. If I feel I'm done with this step, I sit down and doodle one of these: A panel sketch. They really not big, as you can see. Aproximately the size of a...

After deciding that I wanted to start the comic with a cover the project went into hiatus. Why? Because I couldn't decide!!! I spend maybe 2-3 months only on finding the right idea and concept for a cover! You can see some of the candidates above that made it to the second round kind, which just means they're not uncoordinated scribbles any more but you can actually see what it might look like later. The whole matter stressed me a lot. I desperately wanted a cover and it was supposed to impress...

Occasionally I'll share a bit of the workings and thoughts behind W.i.t.c.h. Sovereigns which you can find under the subsection News --> "Journey". Today I'll just start with the beginning. It's a little confusing and long... sorry! XD Waaaay back when the last issue of W.i.t.c.h. was published in Germany, I felt very unsatisfied as a fan. I loved and followed the comic series for years and then they let it end very unmagically with the whole "Will and Matt brake up only to get back together...
